OraCMU™ (Weissella cibaria CMU) Evidence & Research
OraCMU™ is a beneficial oral probiotic strain of Weissella cibaria. In simple terms, it is a “good bacteria” studied for supporting fresher breath and influencing bacteria associated with oral malodor.
Designed to:
Support fresher breath and promote a healthier oral microbial environment.
What Research Suggests
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial found that supplementation with Weissella cibaria CMU significantly reduced volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs), which are closely associated with oral malodor.

Another randomized clinical study showed that W. cibaria CMU increased colonization of the probiotic strain in the mouth and improved clinical halitosis measurements compared to placebo.

Laboratory comparisons demonstrated that W. cibaria CMU produces hydrogen peroxide at higher levels than several other probiotic strains, contributing to inhibition of certain oral bacteria.

Mechanistic studies show that hydrogen peroxide produced by W. cibaria contributes to antimicrobial activity and suppression of bacteria involved in malodor production.

Hydrogen peroxide is widely used in professional whitening systems because it oxidizes chromogens that cause tooth discoloration.

What This Means
Research suggests that OraCMU™ may support fresher breath by reducing compounds linked to oral malodor and by producing hydrogen peroxide — a naturally occurring antimicrobial compound. While this is not the same as bleaching treatments, hydrogen peroxide production supports a cleaner oral environment and may contribute to reduced stain-causing biofilm over time.
Evena’s Use of OraCMU™
Evena includes OraCMU™ to help reduce compounds associated with bad breath and to support a balanced oral ecosystem overnight — contributing to a fresher feeling upon waking.
